Deb Dotterer Keynote Speaker

Debra "Deb" Dotterer
Assistant Dean & Director of Undergraduate Affairs
College of Natural Science, Michigan State University

After completing her B.S. degree in Education from Miami University, she completed her M.A. in College and University Administration at Michigan State University. Prior to returning to MSU Deb served in various student affairs positions in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Deb Dotterer is currently serving as the Assistant Dean & Director of Undergraduate Affairs for the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University. She has worked at MSU in an advising capacity for over 20 years. Deb is currently the NACADA Region V Chair and has served as Michigan Liaison to the Regional Steering Committee, Chair of the STEM Advising Commission, an Emerging Leader Mentor, a Great Lakes Great Leader Mentor, as well as being involved in many regional and state-wide conference planning teams. As the founding President of MIACADA, she has seen the organization grow from a well-attended conference to a vital and strong organization serving hundreds of advisors throughout the State!

On the reservation webpage you will see the reservation box on the left side of the screen. Input the dates of stay, and then above the red "check availability" button you will see an option stating "add a special rate plan". Click this option and there will be a box asking for the group code, which is OMC. Once the code is added click "check availability" and the negotiated rate will load.

Oakland University is located on 1,443 acres of wooded hills and meadows in Rochester, Michigan. Oakland University currently enrolls more than 20,000 students, 100,000 alumni call it home, and it delivers more than 260 degree and certificate programs. The university was established in 1957 through a generous donation from founders Alfred and Matilda Dodge Wilson. They contributed their historic estate and $2 million to Michigan State University to establish a satellite school, named Michigan State University – Oakland. Oakland University became a sole entity in 1963.

Volunteer Sign-up: In order to make the conference more enjoyable for attendees we are looking for 40-50 volunteers who would be willing to take on tasks like greet guests, work check-in, assist attendees with locating their sessions, and much more! It is a great opportunity to network and get to know awesome professionals from around the state. If you are interested in volunteering please complete the Volunteer Sign Up Form here.

Donations for Raffle: Please bring an item from your institution to donate to our conference raffle! Options include, but are not limited to: t-shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, car decals, key chains, folders, and lanyards. The raffle will take place at the MIACADA conference on May 8, 2015. Please bring your donated item to the conference (drop off at registration check-in table). All conference attendees will be automatically entered to win raffle prizes. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP your donated item, please feel free to contact Christen Lesko (clesko@madonna.edu) or Bani Bordoloi (kbordolo@oakland.edu).

Pre-conference workshop:Graduate Students and New Advisers (in the field less than 3 years) are invited to attend a FREE Pre-conference workshop on Thursday May 7th sponsored by MIACADA and NACADA Region 5. The pre-conference will be held Thursday May 7th from 12pm-5pm at Oakland University. This workshop will give participants an overview and background on the field of academic advising and great networking opportunities with MIACADA board members.

Attire: Your conference planners encourage you to dress comfortably. Please represent your school by wearing school colors or spirit wear, professional dress attire is also welcome.

Area Attractions: Oakland County and Rochester are known for some great eateries and activities. Here are some great options whether you are looking to stay near campus or willing to explore the surrounding areas.

Networking Night: Thursday, May 7th at 7:00pm the MIACADA Board will sponsor a networking night at Papa Vinos Italian Restaurant. Come join the board and your local MIACADA members for free appetizers and great conversations! Papa Vinos is located walking distance from one of our conference hotels, the Centerpoint Marriott.

Mentor Connections: CALLING ALL GRADUATE STUDENTS! SUPPORTERS OF MENTORING GRADUATE STUDENTS! Enjoy your lunch during MIACADA with a twist- you have the chance to acquaint yourself with a new connection! Your 2015 Planning Committee is looking for interested graduate students and current advisers who are interested in serving as an advising mentor during the lunch session. We envision partnered adviser mentor and graduate student enjoying the meal and conversation during the designated lunch time. This is an opportunity for a current adviser to share their knowledge and experience with a graduate student wanting to know more about our profession. Please reserve your spot for this unique connection, here. Both the adviser mentor and graduate student will receive information prior to MIACADA on their partner.
