MIACADA would like to assist graduate students in their endeavors to develop their advising skills and are looking for advisors across Michigan willing to host a student for a job shadowing experience.

Types of Job Shadowing available with Michigan Academic Advising Association

1 hour: Informational interview-
• Learn more about the roles and responsibilities of academic advisors
• Talk about different types of advising and what a typical day is like at various times of the year
• Hear about the experience of the adviser and got their start in academic advising
• Discuss the field of advising including education needed and professional organizations
• Ask any questions you have about academic advising

4 hours: Job shadowing and informational interview-
• Join an academic adviser in their day to day duties for one morning or afternoon
• Learn more about the roles and responsibilities of academic advisors
• Talk about different types of advising and what a typical day is like at various times of the year
• Hear about the experience of the adviser and got their start in academic advising
• Discuss the field of advising including education needed and professional organizations
• Ask any questions you have about academic advising
