The MIACADA Professional Development Grants are presented as a professional development opportunity to selected MIACADA members who demonstrate involvement in national, regional, state, and/or local advising organizations and exhibit the potential for MIACADA leadership roles.

MIACADA will award five (5) regional grants: three to current advising professionals and two to graduate students.

Additionally, MIACADA will award five (5) state grants: three to current advising professionals and two graduate students. 

Please note that a person, current professional or graduate student, can only be awarded one (1) grant per awarding cycle.


For advising professionals, the grant will cover the cost of the early-bird registration fee for current NACADA members. Individuals or their sponsoring institutions are responsible for travel and lodging costs, meals and incidental expenses, and NACADA membership fee is not covered in the registration fee. 


For graduate students the grant will cover the cost of the early-bird registration fee and membership fee for both NACADA regional conference grant and MIACADA state conference grant winners. Individuals or their sponsoring institutions are responsible for travel and lodging costs, meals and incidental expenses. 



Application Packet Components

  • Complete the online grant application.
  • Email a copy of your current resume to MIACADA Past President, Emily Reetz at esr317@hotmail.com.
  • Application & emailed resumes must arrive electronically no later than December 15, 2023.

Eligibility Criteria:


For Current Advising Professionals

  • The applicant must:

      • Be a current MIACADA member at the time of scholarship application.
      • Complete application packet components (listed above).
      • Email a copy of their current resume to MIACADA Past President, Emily Reetz at esr317@hotmail.com.
      • Demonstrate an interest in MIACADA leadership.
      • Confirm the ability to cover travel expenses either personally or through financial support of your institution.
  • Grant recipients will be asked to participate in a MIACADA Member Spotlight discussing their conference experience. This will be on MIACADA’s Facebook page, MIACADA’s website and included in the monthly MIACADA newsletter. This will be coordinated by the MIACADA Communications Team.
  • Current MIACADA Board Members are not eligible. Previous winners of a grant are not eligible for the same grant.


For Graduate Students

  • The applicant must:
      • Confirm full time graduate student status (MIACADA membership not required).
      • Complete application packet components (listed above).
      • Email a copy of their current resume to MIACADA Past President, Emily Reetz at esr317@hotmail.com.
      • Demonstrate an interest in MIACADA leadership.
      • Confirm the ability to cover travel expenses either personally or through financial support of your institution.

Selection Criteria:


The Selection Committee is comprised of MIACADA board members.  Please note that preference will be given to those that submit complete applications.  Applications will be evaluated on the evidence of qualities and practices that demonstrate involvement in national, regional, state, and/or local advising organizations and exhibits the potential for MIACADA leadership roles. Such evidence may include:

  • Desire to take on a leadership role within MIACADA.
  • Evidence of advising that supports NACADA's Core Values.
  • Evidence that advising reflects the standards of good practice in the CAS Standards and Guidelines for Academic Advising.
  • Caring, helpful attitude toward students and colleagues
  • Availability and helpfulness to colleagues at local, state and national levels.
  • Use and dissemination of appropriate information sources.
  • Participation in and support of advisor development programs.
  • Quality of responses to application questions.
